What to eat when you have braces on?
When
you have braces on, you need to bring small changes to you daily
habits, so that you keep them intact and cause no damage. Here, in
this blog, we shall particularly talk about the changes that you
should bring in your dietary habits when you have braces on.
Hard
and chewy items-
minimize
the intake of hard food items. Even if you do, take special care that
you do not harm the braces or damage the braces. Hard items,
including edibles like carrots, apples, candies, etc, are to be
avoided in solid form, as they can bring a great discomfort. Also,
you need to understand that these food items require chewing. Chewing
on hard items increase the chances of snapping a wire. Apart from
that try to minimize and avoid nuts and toffees.
No
sticky food-
Avoiding
sticky and chewy food, such as gums, candies, etc is advised. These
can cause issues with the braces. The food can get stuck to the
braces and you might end of damaging them in the efforts to get the
food out of the braces.
Avoid
sugary items-
Avoiding
sugary food is very important especially if you have braces on.
Sugary items can lead to bacteria formation in the mouth. The
presence of bacteria would mean formation of plaque. The plaque can
damage the teeth and the gums, causing decay and other periodontal
diseases. Also, the presence of the braces would let the plaque to be
formed in areas that can be hard to clean.
